The Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences offers a course of study leading to a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences. Coursework in the area of speech, language, and hearing development, as well as speech-language pathology and audiology are emphasized. Study in these areas is pre-professional preparation necessary for graduate study leading to professional certification in speech-language pathology or audiology by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). A baccalaureate degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences also prepares students for graduate study in a number of other disciplines, as well. At the undergraduate level, clinical practica experiences may be available for students who have completed the necessary prerequisites. Enrollment for clinical practica is limited and permission from the Clinic Supervisor is required.
ADVISING
The purpose of advising is to assist students in planning their academic program and meeting program requirements and deadlines. In addition, advising provides students with the opportunity to discuss career opportunities in the fields of speech-language pathology and audiology.

Undergraduate students are responsible for completing two sets of requirements: PSU general education requirements for a bachelor~Rs degree and the Speech and Hearing Sciences Program requirements for the major.

Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences Advising
Orientation occurs at the end of every summer, the week before school begins. Please notify the department if you want to be included in this. Individual academic advising can be arranged by scheduling an appointment with the undergraduate advisor. When meeting with the undergraduate advisor, students should bring a copy of all undergraduate transcripts, including transcripts from courses completed at PSU and a transfer evaluation if applicable. The transcripts do not need to be official copies. At the initial meeting, students should complete a Student Information Form. Students are responsible for notifying the program secretary if there are any address or other student information changes. It is important that student information be updated to ensure that all students can be reached when there are mailings sent out. Call (503) 725-3533 to be connected to the advisor.
